Meridith B

I have Generalized Anxiety and panic disorder . With the help of medications I am so much better. I also did a lot of therapy. Many people are not willing to try meds or don’t give them a chance. Mental illnesses are like any other illness, they need to be treated with medication. Otherwise you are not treating the illness. I am very open and do not feel the stigma. I am in the entertainment business and accepting my anxiety as an illness has helped me do better in every aspect of life.

Hi meridith. I’m glad to hear that you are feeling better. I was wondering what medicine ended up helping you. I have been prescribed many for the same type of illness but have not been successful in achieving great results.

Thank you for sharing. I would love to know what medicines were prescribed as well. I have GAD and panic disorder ~ just afraid to be alone and drive just because of the “what ifs”… I’m currently on buspirone and clonazepam(as needed).

Be well and thanks again for sharing!!!!

Has anyone ever had to go to the E.R. due to the severity and/or extreme duration of symptoms. I just had to because I thought was having a heart attack. Never knew could be so serious. Overall felt stigma of having mental illness from E.R. “medical professionals.”

    Hi Meredith,
You story is encouraging, but you left out too many details.
I too suffer from anxiety and panic attacks. At first they thought that I was having seizures from head trauma from a boating accident. They now have ruled out that it is seizures. I just started therapy last week and will be continuing for the next few months. I also suffer from a rare chronic pain disease called Erythromelagia aka EM. It is a rare chronic pain disease that affects the nerves in your feet, hands and sometimes your face. There is ana ssociation called T.E.A. that is trying to raise awareness as it is a real disability and the the public needs to know and help to find a cure. It costs me my Full time job because my doctor over prescribed meds for me and caused me to suffer an accidental overdose. I finally found the right dr,but I am still on a waiting list for the Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN as no one here in Memphis has any knowledge of how to treat it. I too would like to know what meds your doctor prescribed for you. I hope to hear back from you soon.
I take 75 mg. of Effexor and one.25 mg. Xanex daily for the Anxiety. It helps somewhat.

    Praying for you,

    Teri M.
