Kate Lynch O’Neil

By March 6, 2014Author
Kate Lynch O’Neil has managed a bi-polar I diagnoses since 1997. At that time, she was living in New York City, but returned to Massachusetts just in time to receive proper treatment and support from her family. She credits her mental health wellness and ongoing journey to success to this critical and support-filled time. In addition, her loving, supportive husband Christopher and five year old son, Daniel, bring her joy daily. Professionally specializing in PR / event work, Kate also serves at her community’s Council of Churches, an advocacy program that mostly assists the hungry and homeless.

QUESTIONNAIRE

Why do I blog?
I’m blogging as I hope my experiences and reflections can somehow help others in the community. It’s also an outlet and source of therapy for me.

I found BC2M….
…watching the Grand Central PSA.

What Stigma Means to Me:
Depends. Sometimes judgment from others; other times realizing I’m imposing stigma upon myself.

The Way I Find Wellness:
Being compliant, knowing myself, and finding peace in the love and support I get from others.

If I Had a Magic Wand:
I would wash away the illness – the “episodes” – and enable people to be themselves without fear of another episode and / or being stigmatized. And I’d hope society would understand the realities of these illnesses (not just the stereotypes and various lists of symptoms).  And, if my fairy powers were VERY powerful, I’d eradicate mental illness with one magical tap of my wand.

My Pick-Me-Up Song:
My wedding song – “All the Way” by Frank Sinatra.

Favorite (Mental Health) Book
Kay Redfield Jamison’s An Unquiet Mind

If I were a superhero, I would be / have powers to…
Wonder Woman – WITH the invisible plane to boot.

Words to Live By:
“Trust your instincts, listen to your inner voice, and be true to you.”
