North Star Statement

BC2M activates and empowers you to join our fight to end stigma and discrimination surrounding mental illness. United, we will create and advance innovative approaches and partnerships to start conversations around mental illness, share resources, and tell stories so everyone can thrive in a stigma free world.

Guiding Principles & Beliefs

We exist on a mental health spectrum. Each and every one of us deserve acceptance, dignity, and support to live our best lives. We follow and uphold the principles below to ensure our work normalizes conversations about mental illness.

Opening a dialogue about mental illness builds the awareness, understanding, and empathy necessary to inspire the action, structural change, and the creation of new norms which end stigma and discrimination.

Our role is to give a voice to others, as their experiences and stories can transform feelings of isolation and despair into feelings of community and hope. These stories will open hearts and minds and change fear and stigma toward people living with mental illness into compassion and support for their journey ahead.

We are a trusted ally in the conversation about mental illness and openly collaborate with other mental health professionals, academics, resources and advocates to grow this consequential movement.

The foundation of broad awareness will be built by deeply engaged change agents, such as young people touched by mental illness and motivated to improve the lives of others.

Science and evidence-based action is essential to achieving our mission. Therefore, we ground our work in the latest research, which we evaluate for effectiveness then share with confidence.

Our work is about saving lives, reducing suffering, and ensuring that people living with a mental illness are able to pursue their human potential with dignity, full civil  rights, appropriate healthcare, and unbridled access to life’s opportunities.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Bring Change to Mind grew out of an unyielding determination to end discrimination surrounding mental health. We recognize that mental health does not live in a vacuum and that many environmental factors, including systemic racism, discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity, and other forms of prejudice, can have devastating impacts on individuals’ well-being. We stand with communities of color (BIPOC), LGBTQ+ individuals, individuals of all religions, people with disabilities, those from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds, and all other marginalized groups to oppose racism, bigotry, and discrimination in all its forms.

BC2M is committed to deliberate action through centering diversity, equity, and inclusion in our decision making, program creation and delivery, and partnerships. Some of those action steps include: creating additional resources on race, LGBTQ+ issues, and mental health for our clubs to access on our online portal, inviting special guests to speak to our youth about racial injustice, LGBTQ+ concerns, how to protect your mental well-being, and facilitating educated conversations around these topics with our youth leaders. Additionally, we have established an internal LGBTQ+ Youth Mental Health Taskforce and other resources dedicated to supporting the mental health needs of all youth within our organization.

To those in our BC2M community who are struggling with their mental health; we see you, we hear you. You are not alone and what you’re feeling right now is valid. If you need to talk, please contact Crisis Text Line by texting “BC2M” to 741-741, dial 988, or call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).
